Family Farming Since 1980
Farmer Glenn grew up on his Father’s dairy farm in Lunenburg and started his own business down the street selling plants and produce. His two older children, Kate and Curtis, spent much of their childhood there and chose agriculture as their vocation as well. As the Boston markets expanded, so did we…all the way out to New Braintree. In 1991, Glenn bought a historic farm in a beautiful, rural community and spent the next several years nurturing the fields back into production, trimming the encroaching hedgerows, and rebuilding the stone walls. Some of these things will take several lifetimes to complete, but they are part of our holistic approach to farming.
Glenn and I got married in 1993 and on nights he stayed out late in the field working, I spent working on the restoration of the c.1750 and 1825 farmhouse. Soon after, we started our first CSA (and our first child) and then all my extra time was consumed with newsletters, membership, and babies. It still is! Our son, Reid, has been working the CSA in Southborough and Framingham with me since he was a twinkle in the eye. He is now married and he and his wife Kirsten live and work here on the farm. We have many members that have been with us since before his birth!!! Faith, the youngest, is our little spitfire. I watch her instructional video “How to open a produce box” on YouTube every year just to see her cuteness. It was one take and there was NO prompting from Mom 🙂. Faith is currently attending college in Virginia.
Glenn’s oldest daughter Kate purchased a farm in Hardwick in 2007 and has cleared land for pastures and built facilities for the growing population of livestock. She sells her pasture-raised meats at Massachusetts farmers’ markets, restaurants, and through her meat CSA.
Curtis, Glenn’s oldest son, works with us and runs the Lunenburg CSA and market in the summer. If you’ve ever been to our stand at any of the markets, you will have seen his impressive display of cherry tomatoes! He and his wife Halley own Still Life Farm where they raise specialty fruits and storage crops and have a fantastic winter CSA program. Many of their lovely fruits, cherry tomatoes and other specialty items can be found on our market displays.
We will continue working to preserve farmland in our area and seeking and supporting new farmers for those properties. The process of reclaiming and rebuilding the farms in New Braintree and Hardwick will never cease. I hope someday the next generation will take over all the planting and hard work here in New Braintree so Glenn and I can relax!
Yes, we’d like to be like everyone else and do a little traveling and see some other gorgeous farms, historic houses, fields and mountains. It’s something to dream about. As for me, my future goals encompass clearing off my desk, organizing the house, and cooking lots of amazing food.
Thank you for supporting local agriculture and for being part of the Stillman’s extended family.

Conscientiously Grown
Our farming philosophy blends organic and traditional practices to offer the widest variety of fruits and vegetables while prioritizing environmental stewardship, food safety, and community well-being. Dissatisfied with conventional labels that permit certain sprays we consider harmful to wildlife and human health, we created our own standard—one that truly reflects our values.
In 2004, we introduced the Conscientiously Grown label to represent our holistic approach to farming. This designation embodies our deep commitment to sustainable agriculture, open space preservation, and the health of our customers, families, and land. Since 1980, we have upheld these principles, ensuring that everything we grow is as safe, fresh, and responsibly produced as possible.

How We Grow
Sustainable family farming is at the heart of everything we do—balancing the health of our soil, our family, and the local ecosystem. While most farms aim for 2% organic matter in their soil, ours consistently tests between 6–10%. Why does this matter? Each 1% of organic matter naturally provides about 20 lbs of nitrogen per acre. At our levels, that’s 120–200 lbs—meaning fewer synthetic fertilizers, lower costs, and a healthier environment.
Our commitment to biodiversity includes partnering with multiple apiaries whose hives thrive on our land. Their bees help pollinate our crops and support a vibrant ecosystem.
We also support native wildlife by leaving plant residues in the field over winter, creating critical food and shelter for birds like turkeys and migratory species. Cutting back hedgerows gives our crops more sun, heats our home with firewood, and provides space for native food-bearing trees and shrubs that nourish both people and animals.
To preserve seed diversity, we grow heirloom varieties and maintain wide crop rotation. When it comes to pest management, we’re careful and science-driven. While we’re not certified organic, many of our crops are grown with no chemicals at all. Some benefit from natural inputs approved by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI), and in a few cases—like apples and peaches—we use select synthetic options only when they’re safer and more effective. Glenn evaluates each product based on its safety, environmental impact, and toxicity data. Organophosphates are avoided.
We’ve also installed dozens of Bluebird and Wood Duck boxes around the farm. Last year alone, over 30 Bluebirds fledged, along with Tree Swallows and Titmice. Our rotating pastures are home to at least three nesting pairs of Bobolinks each season.
We’re proud to grow with intention—for our soil, our community, and future generations. Learn more about sustainable practices at the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service.

GMO-Free & Heirloom-Diversified
We do not use genetically modified seeds on our farm, choosing instead to grow heirloom and traditional varieties that prioritize flavor, nutrition, and sustainability. Our award-winning tomatoes and other produce reflect our commitment to soil health and biodiversity, ensuring that everything we grow is as delicious as it is natural.
Responsible Pest & Soil Management
We take a balanced approach to pest control, using OMRI-approved organic treatments when effective and carefully selected synthetics only when necessary. Farmer Glenn evaluates each input based on safety, environmental impact, and effectiveness to prioritize the health of our family, customers, and land. Our rich soils, with 6-10% organic matter, naturally provide nutrients, reducing the need for fertilizers and supporting long-term soil fertility.
Wildlife & Ecosystem Stewardship
Our farm is designed to coexist with nature, from leaving plant residues to support migratory birds to maintaining hedgerows that provide habitat and heating wood. We also partner with multiple apiaries, hosting beehives that contribute to pollination and biodiversity. By integrating sustainable land management with responsible farming, we ensure a thriving ecosystem for generations to come.

No, none of our produce is certified organic. We strive to grow much of our produce without any chemicals at all, not even chemicals that meet organic standards. For example, our greens are not sprayed with anything. For other crops, such as many of the fruits, we practice an intensive program of scouting and spray only when needed. Glenn is very cautious about chemical selection, so as to maintain a safe environment for our bees and amphibians…plus, we have our own children, grandchildren and pets to worry about 🙂
